Antigua - Easter sawdust carpets
Eric Pasquier / TCS
The celebration of Holy Week in any Catholic country is likely to be big and colourful. But in Guatemala these celebrations are more splendid than most: every year, on the eve of Good Friday, hundreds of multi-coloured carpets - each made of sawdust - are unveiled in the streets. The sight is extraordinary and dramatic, not least because these works of art will be trampled underfoot by the Good Friday procession. ERIC PASQUIER went to Antigua to experience this vibrant holy festival.
